Location: London This opportunity is up to 10 month FTC (February 2027) with the possibility of extension Communications Directorate The Communications Directorate manages and develops the Bank's external and internal communications. It maintains relationships with key groups including the media and Parliament, as well as engaging with the public. The Communications Directorate works with a range of colleagues to develop and deliver the Bank's outreach and education programme, which includes building strategic partnerships with other organisations and running the Bank's Museum. The Directorate also builds and maintains our external website and social media presence and produces the Bank's flagship publications, including the Monetary Policy Report and Financial Stability Report. Information Access Team (IAT) IAT are the Bank's information access experts. We are responsible for handling requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) and data protection laws. We can receive a request about any aspect of the Bank - from data collected by the PRA about regulated firms to information about an unclaimed £60 million fortune from the 1700s! We work with teams across the Bank, gathering the information requested, assessing it for disclosure and coordinating responses with Private Offices. Job Description This is an exciting opportunity to work in an established information rights team in the Communications Directorate of the Bank. The Information Access Team (IAT) handles requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) and data protection laws. The Bank is modernising. And that means that we need to make changes to the way we identify and locate information to answer requests from the public and others. We are looking for a person who wants to make a real impact and is driven by a commitment to information rights and public service. Working closely with the Head of Information Access, you will bring your experience of using Microsoft Purview eDiscovery and subject rights functionality to help us manage the introduction of similar tools to the Bank for information rights and other requests for disclosure. You will ensure that we implement and use these tools in a proportionate, fair and lawful way. You will adapt existing processes, and develop new ones, to integrate their appropriate use. And you will provide training and guidance to your colleagues in the Information Access team to help us develop into a centre of excellence for eDiscovery in the Bank. You will: Identify risks that will result from implementation of more powerful search tools and put in place the mitigations that will ensure our use of them is proportionate, fair and lawful, and takes account of the Bank's policies on access, disclosure and retention; Adjust existing processes, and develop new ones, to integrate use of Microsoft Purview's eDiscovery features and Subject Rights Requests (SRR) workflow into IAT's work; Prepare and deliver training and guidance to IAT colleagues and others in a way that builds confidence amongst delegates that they know when and how to use eDiscovery and SRR functionality in their work; Provide advice on Purview and eDiscovery to the wider information governance community across the Bank and the SharePoint migration project team; Provide leadership on SAR handling within IAT, liaising with the Privacy team on SARs and wider data protection rights matters; Conduct searches using Purview's eDiscovery features to support the handling of SARs, FOI requests and other discovery requirements of the Bank; Assist the Head of Information Access to manage the team's migration to SharePoint; Prepare responses to SARs and FOI requests and complete other tasks as may be required by the Head of Information Access. Number of direct reports: 0 Role Requirements: Minimum Criteria Strong understanding and experience of using eDiscovery features in Microsoft Purview, including case creation and management, search scoping, query logic and filters, and review sets, tagging and export workflows. Experience of using the Subject Rights Requests (SRR) workflow in Microsoft Purview and/or Priva including request intake, searching, filtering, deduplication and redaction processes. Understanding of UK data protection legislation, and best practice as reflected in the Information Commissioner's guidance, as it relates to the handling of SARs, and ability to explain how eDiscovery and SRR tools can help us to meet these requirements. Ability to translate complex technical workflows into clear, accessible language, and communicate with users at all levels of technical comfort patiently and inclusively. Essential Criteria Familiarity with Microsoft 365, in particular SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive, retention policies, and permissions. Be a problem-solver with the ability to diagnose common issues that colleagues may have with Purview, or to identify the correct tool or process for a specific information request (eg when to use eDiscovery and SRR tools and when to rely on other record retrieval processes). Understands data protection principles and requirements such as data minimisation and privacy-by-design, and recognises the importance of correct handling of sensitive or confidential data. Detail-oriented, especially around legal, privacy and compliance requirements. Strong influencing and persuasion skills along with well-developed oral and written communication skills; comfortable handling queries from senior stakeholders. Ability to create training and guidance materials and deliver training on a one-to-one basis or to groups in a patient and supportive manner that fosters confidence amongst colleagues. Willing to work flexibly and respond to changing demands and short turnaround with strong prioritisation and workload management skills. Self-motivated. Desirable Criteria Experience of conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments or similar. Experience of handling freedom of information requests and knowledge of the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, related Codes of Practice and Information Commissioner's guidance. Practitioner certificate in data protection and/or freedom of information. Experience of conducting legal searches to support litigation. Change and/or project management experience and skills. Salary and Benefits Information The London salary for this role is £51,440 - £57,870 per annum In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below: Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. The Bank has the discretion to vary standard accrual rates and dial up and dial down rates at any time and to withdraw dial up and dial down options at any time. A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool. An 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits. 26 days' annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
