Job Summary

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board – Consultant Clinical Psychologist (Maternity Cover, Fixed Term/Secondment for 12 months). Closing date: 29 June 2026.


About the role

This is an exciting time to be part of Neurodevelopmental Services. We need a dynamic and innovative consultant clinical psychologist who can make a strong contribution to the development of the East ND service, reflecting the changing needs of our population. You will be a compelling leader who can use the evidence base to inform clinical practice, providing highly specialist clinical and consultation skills within a very supportive MDT, and working with senior leadership and partner agencies to develop new ways of working across North Wales.


Responsibilities

* Provide a highly specialised clinical psychology service, offering specialised psychological assessment and therapy to clients.
* Work individually and in accordance with the practice code, ethical principles, and guidelines of the BPS and HCPC.
* Have delegated responsibility for the professional leadership, planning, systematic provision and review of Child Clinical Services within East area of BCUHB.
* Lead and manage clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and psychological therapists within Child Clinical Psychology Services in the East.
* Interpret and implement clinical and professional policies, being accountable for own professional actions and decisions.
* Devise, develop, interpret and implement discrete policies and service developments for the Child Clinical Psychology Service in the East area.
* Develop psychological therapies provision and ensure clinical governance processes are in place and implemented in the East area.
* Carry a highly specialist clinical caseload of clients with complex and enduring needs within East BCUHB area.
* Ensure provision of child clinical placements for the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme (NWCPP).
* Provide teaching and training for multi-disciplinary BCUHB staff and for the NWCPP.
* Utilise highly specialised research skills for audit, policy and service development, and research.


Qualifications

Essential:

* Honours Degree in Psychology.
* Eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
* Post‑graduate Doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent), accredited by the BPS.
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
* Clinical supervision training for Doctoral Trainees.
* Doctoral‑level advanced knowledge of clinical psychology theory and practice, psychological therapies and their application, neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation.
* Attendance at formal management and health leadership training programmes.
* Doctoral‑level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis.
* Attendance at several taught postgraduate courses and pursuit of supervised self‑directed study in a specialist field.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in psychology.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC.

Desirable:

* Pre‑qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other applied psychology fields.


Experience

Essential:

* Demonstrated competence to satisfy the assessment requirements of two BPS/DoH National Assessors for Consultant Grade.
* Substantial assessed experience as a qualified and senior clinical psychologist, including significant post‑qualification experience within the designated speciality.
* Effective leadership and management experience for clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and psychological therapists.
* Extensive experience of highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment across a range of care settings.
* Extensive experience of coordinating care within multidisciplinary care‑planning.
* Extensive experience of providing teaching, training and professional supervision.

Desirable:

* Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

* Salary: £80,698 to £92,984 per annum (Band 8c).
* Contract: Fixed term, 12 months.
* Working pattern: Part‑time.
