About the Position

Responsibilities
* Act as the clinical and managerial Site Lead for Clinical Biochemistry at Blackpool Teaching Hospital.
* Deliver a high‑quality, comprehensive, and cost‑effective Clinical Biochemistry service that meets the needs of Lancashire and South Cumbria Health Economy.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and UKAS Accreditation standards ISO 15189:2022, maintaining an effective governance framework and participating in regular audits.
* Provide a clinical and scientific consultative support service to health‑service professionals served by the Pathology Directorate.
* Contribute to the research, innovation and service portfolio of the LSCPS network.
* Provide educational support for medical and scientific trainees, including supervision for STP and HSST programmes.
* Maintain overall responsibility for the Clinical Biochemistry service, including quality evaluation, performance assessment against objectives and full UKAS Accreditation status.
* Develop business cases and apply for funding with the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director as appropriate.
* Oversee the department budget, ensuring a cost‑effective and responsive service within available resources by controlling expenditure and managing demand.
* Establish, implement and maintain processes to identify risks of harm to patients and opportunities for improved patient care.
* Develop actions to address identified risks and opportunities, monitoring ongoing effectiveness.
* Ensure the welfare of staff, provide professional and exemplar leadership, and resolve organisational and staffing issues related to service delivery.
* Chair management meetings, including the Biochemistry Management Team, Biochemistry Seniors and Service Reviews of the Department.
* Be eligible for appointment as Clinical Director of Pathology.
