Job Description:
This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. Close collaboration with the Performance Engineering group and regular interaction with the broader GM Motorsports team and customer race teams are essential.
The role requires reporting to Concord, NC three times per week, at minimum. Responsibilities include collaborating with GM supported teams, understanding analysis areas, brainstorming performance improvements, training others, and continuously improving analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding. You will also work with GM software teams to implement solutions, push the boundaries of current tools, and explore simulation and analysis techniques to improve on-track performance. Clear communication of findings and recommendations through reports and in-person follow-ups is expected.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field
* 5+ years of experience in top-level motorsports series (e.g., NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC)
* Knowledge of simulation workflows and experience with simulation tools
* Proficient programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar
* Experience analyzing on-track performance using vehicle dynamics principles and statistical methods
* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask

Preferred Qualifications:
* Race engineering experience, including vehicle setup, race preparation, and strategy
* Proficiency with motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec)
* Experience with multibody modeling and simulation (Dymola/Modelica, ADAMS)
* Knowledge of tire modeling, testing, and validation
* Experience with aerodynamic testing and CFD application
* Familiarity with vehicle testing methods and data reduction techniques
