The new South west B rachial Plexus Team ( SWePT ) is a new entity established at North Bristol NHS Trust and regionally commissioned by the South west NHS. This service will be centre for a hub and spoke model of highly specialist, clinical/academic, brachial plexus care for the region.
This post is within the O rthopaedic and T rauma directorate and will be working closely with wider surgical and allied health professionals. The clinical team will be made up of two consultant Surgeons and consultant T herapist with specified therapy, neurophysiology and administration colleagues, and will be based at Southmead Hospital .
As a specialist service SWePT is looking for a clinical - academic surgeon with fellowship training in brachial plexus surgical care, from any relevant surgical background. Th is role would suit an individual who is looking for a less than full time role to support work in other areas ; s uch an individual may be engaged in formal funded research activi ty (ideally in the nerve compression/regeneration field) and be looking for a clinical commitment to integrate alongside their clinical academic practice.
The successful applicant will join as a n equal consultant member of th e SWePT service. This post is a permanent 4PA contract. The role will require an individual who is willing to working with and support the development of a regional service and advance its team-working, multidisciplinary ethos of clinical prov ision, audit and research identity.

North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) wishes to appoint a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in Brachial Plexus. The candidate should have fellowship experience in this field. This post is a part time 4 PA position.
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee.
The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.

* GMC registration
Qualifications
* Maintain Full registration with the GMC
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: -CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview -CESR -European Community Rights Maintain - An appropriate higher Trauma and Orthopaedic surgical qualification. Must be on GMC Specialist Register at time of the appointment or, if a Specialist Registrar (SpR) in training, must be within six months of completion of CCT at time of interview. Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date
* Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS)
Training and Experience
* Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
* Post-CCT Fellowship/Consultant experience in major trauma
* Minimum of seven years postgraduate experience including higher surgical/medical training, three years as a Senior Registrar in an approved training post, or equivalent. Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training potential.
* Evidence of post fellowship experience
Research, Teaching, Publications
* Proven teaching ability
* Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates.
* Proven track record in research.
* Willingness to undertake further research.
* Ability to gain the trust and confidence of colleagues and patients.
* Ability to teach effectively
* Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals.
* Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.
Personal Requirements (eg. Communication Leadership Skills, Flexibility)
* Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team.
* Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of the NMSK Directorate. To balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole
* Good written communication skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
Other Requirements
* Ability to fulfil all the duties of the post, including on-call commitments.
Further Training, Management, Audit
* Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career
* Experience in audit project and written up
* Knowledge of Contemporary NHS Management Issues
* Knowledge of political context within which we operate.
* Completion of a general management course or programme.
