As a Project Planner, you will provide programme management and planning support across major project workstreams. You will own and maintain high‑level and detailed schedules in Primavera P6, assure supplier/contractor programmes under NEC contracts, and drive structured progress measurement and reporting. You will work closely with the Project Controls Manager, Senior Project Manager, and PMO to give early, actionable insight on schedule performance, risk, and change.
Programme Ownership & Management
Build, own, and maintain the high‑level and detailed programmes in Primavera P6, ensuring robust logic, dependencies, calendars, and coding.
Maintain schedule integrity (float management, critical path, key milestones) and perform what‑if / scenario modelling for impact assessments.
Align schedules to the client programme to ensure end‑to‑end delivery visibility and coherent interfaces.
Contractor Programme Assurance (NEC)
Lead review and assurance of programmes for compliance (NEC3/NEC4), logical integrity, realism, and deliverability.
Coordinate submission cycles, client reviews, acceptance processes, and change impacts; provide clear recommendations on acceptability.
Evaluate early warnings, compensation events, and schedule impacts in P6, support change control and baselining.
Work Package Management
Manage or coordinate defined work packages, maintaining scope, interfaces, assumptions, risks, and dependencies.
Monitor supplier performance and blockers; escalate risks early and drive mitigations.
Ensure accurate progress/forecasting from packages feeds the master programme.
Progress Measurement & Reporting
Track and validate progress (e.g., manufacture, logistics, installation, testing & commissioning) against logic, work rates, and planned curves.
Identify slippage, risks, and opportunities using data‑driven analysis; propose recovery options.
Produce weekly/monthly reports, dashboards, and packs for the Senior PM, PMO, and stakeholders (Excel/Power BI).
PMO & Senior PM Support
Provide planning insight, variance analysis, and delivery coordination to inform decision‑making.
Supply structured schedule assurance inputs for governance and consolidated programme reviews.
Governance & Interfaces
Support planning inputs to governance forums, progress reviews, engineering/design meetings, and supplier reviews.
Maintain disciplined version control, configuration management, audit trails, and change logs for all planning artefacts.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Hands‑on Primavera P6 expertise in complex delivery environments (rail, infrastructure, engineering, or manufacturing).
Proven experience assuring and challenging contractor programmes and logic, including under NEC contracts (acceptance/change processes).
Strong progress analysis capability: performance metrics, trends, and variance/root‑cause storytelling.
Excel power user (lookups, pivots, data cleaning); ability to shape data for P6 import/export and reporting; Power BI exposure desirable.
Clear, concise communicator able to present programme insight to PMs, PMO, and senior stakeholders.
Analytical, detail‑focused, organised, and calm under pressure; comfortable giving constructive challenge.
Desirable
Experience with Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC) and/or schedule risk analysis methods.
Background in rail systems, signalling, or civil/track delivery; understanding of manufacturing and logistics interfaces.
Familiarity with integrated controls (cost/schedule/risk) and earned value concepts.
Education & Qualifications
Degree (or HNC/HND) in Engineering, Construction/Project Management, Project Controls, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Professional accreditation/desirables: APM PMQ/PPQ, PMI‑PMP, APM membership; Primavera P6 accreditation/certification advantageous.
Ongoing CPD and evidence of upskilling in planning tools/analytics
