Principal Transport Planner

Opportunity
Amey is seeking experienced transport planners who can bring strong expertise in strategic transport modelling, business case development and economic assessment. We are currently looking for a Principal Transport Planner to lead our team in Birmingham.
Role
Responsibilities
* Act as a technical team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision to technical teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers.
* Prepare and lead the preparation and checking of transport planning related documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria.
* Control budgets and manage the costs associated with the production of deliverables, ensuring the commercial success of projects within the portfolio.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level and higher, presenting proposals.
* Significantly contribute to and lead the preparation of bids, taking responsibility for technical and commercial offers with accountability to the bid director.
* Work on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full‑time temporary role, including out of hours working.
* Assume the role of people manager when required by the business.
What You Will Bring To Us
* Incorporated Engineer, Chartered or Transport Planning Professional status, gained through the relevant professional institution.
* Ability to apply transport planning theory and principles to complex or ambiguous situations, adapting concepts to achieve correct outcomes.
* Knowledge, understanding and experience of design and specification processes, with the ability to manage others and act as Design Team Lead for projects.
* Highly experienced with relevant software and similar analytical tools, able to check work produced by others and validate the use of new tools.
* Excellent knowledge of suppliers and the services they provide, maintained through regular contact.
* Excellent oral communication skills, able to present arguments and ideas to peers, senior colleagues and clients, and to deliver internal training workshops and presentations to clients.
* Deep understanding of CDM and risk assessment, with experience managing and communicating hazards and risks on projects and ensuring appropriate mitigation and transference.
* Strong ability to resolve interface clashes and manage interfaces within the discipline.
* Supervisory and people management skills.
* Capability to act as technical lead for a project where required under the terms of the commission.
