Overview
Birkbeck, University of London offers an opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team on the Certificate of Higher Education, BSc Foundation Year and BA programmes, supporting the School of Psychological Sciences this Autumn 2026.
Responsibilities
Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, enabling them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties.
Your main responsibility is preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Understanding Applied Cognitive Psychology module, a Level 4 module offered as part of our Certificate of Higher Education, Accelerated Foundation Year and BA programmes.
* Understanding Applied Cognitive Psychology (Level 4)
* 22 hours of teaching per week
* Monday afternoon 2‑4 pm, or evenings 6‑8 pm (please indicate preference)
Requirements
* A degree in Psychology.
* Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the Higher Education sector.
* A good understanding of the needs of full and part‑time adult learners and the ability to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
* Experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
* Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
* A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e‑mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle and Teams.
Desirable
* Postgraduate degree(s) in a relevant area.
* A teaching qualification.
Payment and Contract
Remuneration: Payment is based on an hourly rate of £69.68 per hour (starting point Grade 7) inclusive of pro‑rated London Allowance and holiday pay for contact hours worked. The rate is inclusive of a Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier of 2.5.
Contract: Fixed‑term, October to December 2026, part‑time contract. Closing date: Sunday 14 June, interview date: 30 June 2026.
