Our Blood Sciences team provides a 24/7 service across three laboratories at Musgrove Park Hospital, Yeovil District Hospital, and our Taunton hub. The role is based in Blood Sciences (Biochemistry) at Musgrove Park Hospital and the Taunton lab.
You will work with cutting-edge Beckman Coulter systems, including DxA500, AU5800, DxC700, DxI800, and Access 2 analyzers, supported by the Winpath LIMS system. The department serves NHS trusts and primary care providers.
SYNLAB UK & Ireland has extensive NHS partnership experience through joint ventures like SPS.
Our team has contributed to healthcare in Somerset for over a decade, holding ISO15189 UKAS accreditation and being an HCPC-approved training lab for IBMS registration and specialist portfolios.

Responsibilities:
As a Biomedical Scientist, you will perform and interpret routine and specialist tests, ensuring patient-centered scientific excellence and high-quality standards in line with ISO15189.
You will supervise and support other staff, sharing your expertise and passion.
As a registered Biomedical Scientist, maintaining fitness to practice and engaging in CPD is essential. SPS supports your professional development with resources and a dedicated training team.
Qualifications:
* HCPC Registration in Biomedical Science
* IBMS-approved Biomedical Sciences Degree or equivalent in Clinical Biochemistry
Knowledge and Experience:
* CPD evidence as per HCPC
* Post-registration experience in Biochemistry as a BMS
* Knowledge of laboratory methods and principles
* Experience with automated equipment
* Competency across laboratory areas
* Understanding of quality systems and ISO/UKAS standards
* Familiarity with Laboratory IT systems
Skills:
* Teamwork and communication skills
* Physical dexterity for laboratory tasks
* Ability to work independently and train staff
* Result interpretation skills
* Work prioritization and organization
Candidates should possess an IBMS specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent for Band 6. Those working towards it may be considered for Band 5, with automatic progression to Band 6 upon completion and a retention bonus.
