Employment Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Industry: Clean Energy / Propulsion / Power Systems
Overview
We're seeking a Performance Modelling Engineer to take ownership of high-level system modelling at the concept stage for advanced power and propulsion systems. You'll be responsible for developing 0D models to support early design decisions and trade-offs - including efficiency, mass, and power output.
This is a fully onsite, hands-on technical role suited to someone who can work independently while engaging closely with multi-disciplinary teams. A background in thermodynamics, fluid systems, or power generation is ideal. Aerospace experience is welcome but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage system-level performance models for early-stage concepts
Produce and maintain version-controlled performance decks aligned with design updates
Analyse performance predictions and identify areas for system optimisation
Inform system sizing and architecture decisions through modelling and trade studies
Collaborate with engineering teams to create simplified models and support design reviews
Provide data and insights to support both technical and commercial decision-making
Work with customers to manage input data and communicate performance implications
Generate pragmatic, first-principle models for early concept evaluation
Contribute to the development of automated, robust simulation tools and modelling processes
Support validation of performance models in collaboration with R&D, CAE, and Test teams
Assist in developing system-level models (e.g. full-vehicle or aircraft applications)
Document model results and prepare technical reports for specifications and forecastsSkills & Experience

BEng, BSc or equivalent in engineering, physics or a related discipline
Strong experience in system-level modelling using tools such as MATLAB
Sound understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, or energy systems
Ability to build pragmatic, simplified models based on first principlesDesirable:
Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
Sector experience in aerospace, automotive, or energy industries
Familiarity with model automation, toolchain development or simulation roadmapping
