The Opportunity
A private equity backed legal data business is seeking a senior leader from a pure data provider organisation to help rethink how proprietary legal data should be distributed in an AI-native world.
This is a top-line growth and distribution strategy engagement, not a cost optimisation project.
The objective is to define a forward-looking distribution model that could unlock an entirely new revenue line.
The selected candidate will work closely with the CEO and Chief Product Officer to shape the company’s next phase of commercial growth.
The Core Strategic Questions
The business is re-evaluating foundational assumptions about how legal data should be monetised and delivered in the AI era:
Should data remain platform/terminal-based
Should distribution become API-led or usage-based
Is an MCP/server model the right long-term architecture
Should proprietary data be embedded directly into AI-native platforms
What is the optimal pricing model: seat-based, usage-based, or hybrid
How is AI changing customer consumption behaviour

Conduct structured customer interviews
Develop commercial modelling and pricing frameworks
Deliver a clear recommendation for a new distribution strategyThis is a strategy-only mandate. No implementation required.
Ideal Profile
Former data or product leader within a core data-as-product business
Ideally AI-native or with strong exposure to AI-driven platforms
Experience designing modern data distribution models (API, usage-based, embedded distribution, etc.)
Comfortable influencing C-suite stakeholders
Operates effectively in a fractional, high-autonomy environment
Brings a strong industry network
