Biomedical Assistant, Mortuary

Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) provide Mortuary services across three mortuary sites; University Hospital Coventry NHS Trust, Rugby St Cross, and South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust. The Mortuary team cover both Hospital and Community deaths across Coventry and Warwickshire conducting hospital, coronial, high risk and forensic post‑mortem examinations.
Our Mortuary network cares for over 4,000 patients per year. We are the busiest forensic department in the region serving West Midlands, West Mercia and Warwick Police forces, with over 1,000 patients each year.
CWPS are looking for a compassionate individual who will be responsible for caring for our deceased patients with dignity and respect.
Please note: This is not a laboratory role. This role is patient facing.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job
* Responsible for inputting accurate and timely patient data on to relevant Trust computerised systems.
* Responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps and confidential waste.
* Undertake telephone and face‑to‑face enquiries dealing in a professional manner.
* To prepare the bodies of deceased patients for viewing in accordance with trust policies and procedures.
* To prepare the bodies of deceased patients for release to undertakers in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
* Responsible for the dispatching and posting of samples to authorised persons and laboratories ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations.

Job responsibilities
Physical
* There is a requirement for frequent intense physical effort for short periods throughout the working day.
Mental
* The post holder needs to be able to multi task while performing an activity. It is important to be able to keep track of several tasks at once due to the interruptions of others and the necessity to facilitate other mortuary users.
Emotional
* Constant exposure to distressing and emotional situations.
* Dealing with angry, abusive and occasionally violent next of kin.
* Dealing with those deceased known to the technician and their families.
* Dealing with the bereaved and their emotions.
* Dealing with multi faith requirements.
* Trauma, decomposed and child/baby deaths are routinely expected and dealt with accordingly.
