The band 6 Mammographer will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, efficient breast screening and diagnostic imaging service within the Breast Unit. The postholder will perform the full range of mammographic procedures independently, applying professional judgement and technical expertise to produce accurate diagnostic images while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and dignity. They will provide clear explanations to patients, assess clinical needs, adapt techniques to individual circumstances, and give provisional reports on screening mammograms in line with established protocols.
The role also includes supporting and guiding colleagues, supervising radiographers, students and assistants, and contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings. The postholder will assist the Superintendent Radiographer with operational efficiency, clinical audits, and service improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with clinical governance, safety standards, and radiation protection legislation.

Are you an experienced Mammographer ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Band 6 Mammographer to join our welcoming and professional team within the Breast Unit at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Our Breast Unit delivers high-quality diagnostic breast imaging for both the NHS Breast Screening Programme and the symptomatic breast service, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, timely, and patient‑centred care. In this role, you will independently carry out the full range of mammographic procedures, offer clinical guidance to colleagues, and contribute to ongoing service development. You will also have opportunities to engage in audit, training, and multidisciplinary meetings, ensuring our patients receive the very best standards of care.
We are looking for a qualified Mammographer with a Certificate of Competence in Mammography and significant clinical experience. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, work confidently both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
