Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (High-Precision Machining and Sheet Metal Parts Design)
Location: Portsmouth region
Our client is a prominent international R&D organization looking to bring on board an accomplished Senior Mechanical Engineer to augment their UK team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will assume the responsibility of overseeing intricate processes involved in the design and full product life cycle management of bespoke high-tech subsystems.
Your expertise in high-precision machining, tolerance analysis, testing, and mechanical sheet metal parts design will make you a valuable R&D team member to become a leader.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and manufacturing metal sheet components, along with experience in low-volume high-value manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and development of mechanical sheet metal parts, ensuring adherence to engineering principles and manufacturing best practices.
* Utilize CAD/ Solidworks systems to create detailed drawings and specifications for sheet metal components.
* Liaise with teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
* Conduct tolerance analysis to ensure that sheet metal parts meet required specifications and performance criteria.
* Oversee the fabrication and testing of sheet metal components, providing technical guidance and support.
* Continuously evaluate and improve manufacturing processes to enhance product quality.
* Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
* 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing, with a focus on sheet metal parts
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and experience with sheet metal design tools
* Strong understanding of machining processes and their impact on sheet metal part design
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot complex engineering challenges
* Effective communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams
* Experience with quality management systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
* Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA); structural analysis of sheet metal components
* Familiarity with industry-specific standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5 for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)
* Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role
