About Us:
Gizmo's & Gadget's K9 Services is one of County Durham's leading dog walking and home boarding businesses. We currently care for over 100 dogs across a wide range of areas including Consett, Lanchester, Stanley, Durham, Esh Winning, Tow Law, Crook, Bishop Auckland, Hunwick, Spennymoor and surrounding villages. Our focus is on safety, flexibility, and quality - and we pride ourselves on building strong, lasting relationships with both dogs and their humans.
We specialise in structured, off-lead group walks in enclosed private fields. Our dogs enjoy safe socialisation, plenty of playtime, and lots of love, and we're proud to offer a premium service that goes above and beyond standard dog walking. As our business continues to grow, we're looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic dog lover to join our team.
About the Role:
We're hiring a Dog Walker to support our team with group walks and dog transport. This is a physically active, hands-on role that requires confidence with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. You'll be responsible for collecting dogs from their homes, taking part in group walks (at private, secure fields with another member of staff), ensuring their safety and enjoyment, and returning them home happy and clean.
Key Details:
* Minimum 15 hours per week, with a likely average of 20-30 hours per week
* Shifts usually split across 2–3 days, with occasional full weeks (Mon–Fri) expected.
* Hours vary between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday
* Shifts vary week-to-week so availability across 4–5 days per week is essential
* Based in Consett - candidates must live locally to collect the van and keys each day
Responsibilities:
* Driving a company van to collect and return dogs across various towns
* Supervising off-lead group walks in secure fields
* Monitoring dog behaviour, health, and safety at all times
* Building strong bonds with dogs and their owners
* Communicating professionally and warmly with clients, both in person and via WhatsApp
* Taking high-quality photos and videos to share with clients after walks
* Maintaining cleanliness (including poo-picking and occasional cleaning of the van)
* Keeping to a strict schedule and being consistently punctual
What We're Looking For:
* Ideally Age 23+ (required for insurance purposes)
* A confident driver (full CLEAN UK driving licence) - experience with vans is ideal but not required; full training will be provided
* Someone with a genuine love of dogs and an interest in dog behaviour
* A friendly, positive, and reliable team player
* Excellent time management skills and the ability to follow a schedule independently
* A good level of physical fitness - this is an active outdoor role in all weather and you'll be required to lift dogs
* Strong communication skills - someone chatty and warm with clients
* Good attention to detail and initiative - we want someone who genuinely cares and takes pride in their work
* Comfortable using a mobile phone to take photos, videos, and communicate with the team and clients
Desirable (but not essential):
* Previous experience working with dogs (dog walking, kennel work, rescue work, or similar)
* Familiarity with the areas we cover
* Basic understanding of dog body language and behaviour
