About the Opportunity
KNSI is seeking an Avionics Design Engineer to join our growing Part-21J Design Organisation based in Bishops Stortford, near Stansted Airport. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic and expanding engineering team delivering avionics and electrical modifications on commercial aircraft and helicopters.
The successful candidate will support the design, certification and delivery of aircraft modification projects, working closely with the Head of Design, Office of Airworthiness, Compliance Verification Engineers (CVEs), customers and production teams.
This position is ideally suited to an engineer looking to further develop their Part-21 design and certification experience with a structured pathway towards future CVE responsibilities and technical leadership within the organisation.
The ideal candidate will be a flexible and motivated engineer capable of supporting both working-level design activities and certification programmes within a regulated aviation environment.
This is a full-time, office-based position based at our headquarters in Bishop’s Stortford, near Stansted Airport. This role is not offered as remote or hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the design and certification of aircraft avionics and electrical modification projects in accordance with UK CAA and EASA Part-21 requirements.
* Produce and review engineering documentation including: Wiring diagrams, Wire routing and installation drawings, Harness fabrication drawings, Service Bulletins and accomplishment instructions, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), EWIS assessments, Aircraft manual supplements and system schematics
* Support the preparation of certification documentation including: Certification Programmes, Compliance Statements, Electrical Load Analysis documentation, Test Plans and Test Reports, System Safety Assessments, Equipment qualification documentation
* Liaise with Compliance Verification Engineers (CVEs) to support demonstration of compliance with applicable airworthiness and environmental protection requirements.
* Work closely with internal Part-21G and external Part-145s to ensure successful production of parts, delivery of modifications and embodiment.
* Participate in aircraft surveys, installation support and testing activities as required.
* Contribute to project planning, technical proposals and customer support activities.
* Support customer meetings, design reviews and project discussions.
* Ensure engineering documents comply with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Design Organisation.

* Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) authorisation within the avionics/electrical discipline
Progression will be dependent on demonstrated competence, performance, experience and regulatory knowledge.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
* Qualified in a recognised Aeronautical, Electrical or Avionics Engineering discipline, or possess significant relevant aerospace technical experience.
* Minimum 3–5 years experience in an aerospace design, avionics engineering or airworthiness role.
* Sound working knowledge of UK CAA and/or EASA Part-21 requirements.
* Experience working within a Part-21J Design Organisation, Airline Technical Services environment, or Part-145 Maintenance Organisation.
* Experience producing engineering drawings, compliance documents or Instructions for Continued Airworthiness.
* Familiarity with avionics and electrical aircraft systems.
* Understanding of certification processes and compliance demonstration activities.
* Experience liaising with customers, production teams and certification personnel.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
* Strong task management and organisational skills.
* Confident communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to travel internationally as project requirements dictate.
* Ability to live and work in the UK.
* Experience with Boeing and/or Airbus aircraft platforms.
* Familiarity with CS-23, CS-25, EWIS and related certification requirements.
* Experience supporting aircraft modification projects.
* Previous involvement in certification programmes and compliance verification activities.
* Experience conducting aircraft surveys and on-aircraft support activities.
* Experience using CAD packages such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor or Fusion 360.
* Experience working with OEM technical data systems – Airbus World, My Boeing Fleet, Embraer portal etc.
* Demonstrated interest in progressing towards future CVE responsibilities.
