Role: Skilled Operative
The skilled operative carries out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers while maintaining high safety standards on civil construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Understand all relevant risk and method statements.
* Use best safe practice on all tasks.
* Inspect equipment used.
* Install drainage, lay concrete, kerbs and pavements, perform excavation and groundworks, dig trenches, load and unload materials.
* Maintain a safe, tidy work area.
* Implement best practice procedures and maximise working time.
* Ensure all permits and briefings are signed before commencing work.
* Communicate concerns to the site supervisor.
* Report near‑miss events to site management.
* Attend all briefings, forums and toolbox talks; deputise for briefings and toolbox talks.
Essential Qualifications
* Experience in general civil works (earthworks, drainage, ducting, kerbing and concreting).
* CSCS card.
* Experience operating a forward‑tipping dumper/slinger/ride‑on roller/360 excavator or telehandler.
Desirable
* SSSTS/SSMTS certification.
* ½ day environmental awareness training.
* NRSWA certificate.
