MorsonEdge is recruiting an Architect / Architectural Technologist for a 1‑year contract starting 1 February 2026 in Cardiff. The role focuses on the architectural design of a railway station.
Job Description
The position requires 3‑5 years of post‑professional or post‑chartership experience with a particular focus on technical delivery and construction stages. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team on the extension and refurbishment of a railway station.
Responsibilities
* Deliver technical design (RIBA work stage 4) for the specified project.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including building design and rail disciplines.
* Create architectural technical drawings, schedules, and specifications.
* Ensure design responses are pragmatic and respond to the client brief, respecting site constraints, climate, context, and culture.
* Develop designs rooted in a strong narrative to enhance the firm’s reputation.
* Report on activity and analyze feedback and success factors.
* Contribute to the development of design culture and capability of the multi‑disciplinary design team.
Qualifications and Skills
* RIBA Part 3 qualification or CIAT accreditation with demonstrable experience on a wide range of complex projects at different stages.
* Flexible, positive, self‑motivated, and team‑player mindset.
* Experience in transportation, specifically rail projects, and preferably in commercial and public sector buildings.
* Understanding of the design process from concept to detail design, including key detail identification and completion.
* Responsibility for specific work packages, awareness of project budgets, and a willingness to develop financial knowledge.
* Strong interpersonal skills, organisational efficiency, and meticulous attention to detail.
* Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines.
* Proficiency in design software: Bentley / Open Building Designer, Revit, Adobe suite, Enscape or V‑Ray, and AutoCAD.
Security Clearance
This role requires a basic level of security clearance, with potential for increased levels if required. The vetting process is administered by the United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV). Candidates may need to provide proof of UK residency for five years or longer. Do not mention any current or previous security clearance in your application or CV.
