Operations Technician II - Animal Facility
Responsibilities
* Daily animal care activities including feeding, animal observations/identification of clinical concerns, and nail trimming.
* Husbandry activities including cage changes/cleaning, use of power wash and chemical dispensing equipment, and general facility sanitization and support.
* Milking of rabbits and standard support activities to meet production goals and adhere to established schedules.
* Proper restraint of rabbits to facilitate animal care, transfers, sample collection, and advanced handling (AI restraint).
* Technical skills including IM, IV, SC, and IP injections, and IV blood collection procedures.
* Assess animals, initiate veterinary care, and execute animal treatments.
* Perform animal identification methods (ear tags, tattoos, RFID transponders).
* Provide support for natural and artificial insemination breeding procedures, pregnancy palpation, and kindling/weaning procedures as assigned.
* Document information using computer and paper-based systems to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
* Understand applicable Quality Systems (e.g., change control, deviations).
* Write, modify, and provide training on SOPs/WIs/TMs as assigned.
* Work independently on assigned projects with little or no supervision.
* Identify safety issues and initiate corrective actions; identify and communicate animal welfare concerns.
* Demonstrate understanding of applicable animal care and use guidelines.
* Weekend and holiday coverage required on a rotating basis.
Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED required; 2-5 years laboratory animal experience AS (in related discipline) or 1-4 years laboratory animal experience BS (in related discipline) or 1-3 years laboratory animal experience.
* AALAS certification at the ALAT level is required.
* Ability to work in a team-oriented production environment with attention to detail, accuracy, and good organizational skills.
* Strong attention to detail and compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
* Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
* Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and strong interpersonal skills.
* Working knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and internet).
* Physical ability to push/pull wheeled carts weighing up to 500 pounds and to lift/manipulate up to 50 pounds.
* Duties require long periods of standing and/or sitting for an average of six hours a day.
* May be exposed to materials and chemicals that are potentially allergenic.
* Duties require repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
