A quick look at the role
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Atherstone facility, ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency. You'll drive performance through KPIs, improve financial results, support customer service excellence, and lead a proactive site team in coordination with the Depot Manager and regional teams.
Your core responsibilities
1. Lead and improve site health, safety, and environmental culture, promoting safe practices and investigating incidents when needed.
2. Ensure full compliance with environmental permits and legal standards, aiming to maintain zero EA CAR scores and no long-term waste stock.
3. Oversee treatment planning, capacity, and resource allocation to ensure efficient site operations and excellent customer service.
4. Manage operational costs across labour, disposal, and maintenance to meet or exceed budget targets.
5. Lead and develop site staff, handling all personnel matters and aligning with operational goals and policies.
6. Foster a positive, team-focused culture that values employee input and continuous improvement.
7. Support and lead implementation of new projects and operational initiatives.
8. Work closely with other regional sites to share best practices and maintain high performance standards.
9. Support the Depot Manager with commercial bids and providing financial information.
Our essential requirements
1. Experience in hazardous waste operations, including managing treatment and transfer stations, or similar operations.
2. Proven team management skills in fast-paced, high-risk environments.
3. Solid understanding of hazardous waste legislation, permitting, and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 18001).
4. Skilled in preparing risk assessments, method statements, and understanding contract commercial aims.
5. Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
6. COTC Level 4 in Hazardous Waste Treatment & Transfer (preferred); IOSH Managing Safely; degree in a chemical science or engineering field (preferred).
7. Willingness and aptitude to undertake on-the-job training and achieve industry-recognised qualifications as part of your career development.
