Several vacancies may be available - multiple selections may be made Job Title: Mechanic – MOT Tester Location: RAF Lakenheath Vacancy Number: 072623 Close Date: 27 April 2026 Hours and Schedule: 39 hours per week, As Rostered (any 5 days out of 7 days) Hourly Pay: £15.84 - £17.36 Benefits: • Competitive Salary: the starting salary for this position is £15.84 per hour • Holiday: 25 Days Annual Leave UK Bank holidays • Paid Sick Leave • Pension Scheme • Free On-Site Parking • Employee extras such as: Life Assurance scheme, Employee Assistance Program, Specialized Training, Developmental Opportunities, Receive time off, cash, and honorary awards for significant contributions Job Description As a Mechanic, your key responsibilities will include: • Vehicle Maintenance: Conducting diagnostic evaluations, general servicing, and a wide range of repairs on patron vehicles, covering systems like engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and A/C. • Patron Instruction: Assisting and guiding patrons through all phases of their own automotive repair projects, from planning to execution. • Technical Guidance: Advising patrons on safe practices, proper tool usage, and current automotive technology, including demonstrating repair techniques. • Resource Management: Issuing the correct tools and replacement parts to patrons for their projects. • Shop Operations: Performing safety inspections on equipment and maintaining a clean, orderly workspace for all users. Qualifications and Key skills • Level 3 Diploma (City & Guilds, BTEC or similar) in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or similar) • Current Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Nominated Tester with a valid MOT license • A valid UK CAT B driving license. 1. Knowledge of techniques for removing, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components and accessories. 2. Knowledge in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline powered engines and automotive equipment. 3. Ability to determine when parts should be cleaned and reinstalled or replaced. 4. Basic understanding of electricity and hydraulics and the skill to make adjustments and settings (i.e., engine tune-ups, setting engine timing, adjusting brakes). 5. Basic understanding of on-board computer diagnostic systems and other test equipment. 6. Skill in using basic automotive tools. 7. Ability to read and interpret parts manuals and manufacturers’ repair manuals. Other Significant facts 1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential. 2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. 3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period. 4. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. 5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 6. LNDH Program positions are not regularly drug tested, but testing may occur due to reasonable suspicion of substance abuse or after a safety mishap/accident. 7. Must pass a pre-employment physical requiring frequent standing, bending, stooping, crawling, working in tight spaces, and lifting up to 40 pounds frequently, with occasional assistance for items over 50 pounds.
