Patients are at the centre of everything we do in our daily working lives at NHS Borders ensuring they are safe, cared for efficiently, effectively by suitably experienced and qualified staff driving quality at the heart of patient care.
Our service caters for a stable population in a tranquil and beautiful rural area only 36 miles from Scotlands vibrant capital, Edinburgh. There is affordable housing in the local area and assistance with temporary accommodation is available for the successful candidate(s).
The Role
You would gain experience looking after patients under the care of the Hospital at Home service, providing hospital-level care in patients own homes or Care Homes. You would be working within a supportive team of consultants and nurse practitioners. We currently provide this service to patients living within the central Borders, Teviot and Cheviot localities with a plan to expand throughout the whole Borders area.
If you wish there may be the opportunity to contribute to the general medical out of hours rota at the BGH, only by mutual agreement and if not impacting daytime working within Hospital at Home.
This post is aimed at post foundation doctors at ST1 or ST2 level who have completed a foundation medical training programme (or have gained equivalent additional clinical experience). Full GMC registration and licence to practice is essential but no previous Hospital at Home experience is required.
A Drivers License and access to a car is essential for this role. Travel expenses incurred while seeing patients will be reimbursed.
This post is not a recognised training grade but may be a great opportunity to develop and evidence clinical and professional competence to assist overall career development, particularly for those interested in careers in medicine, medicine of the elderly or General Practice.
Arrangements can be made for an informal discussion and informal visits are also welcome; please contact Cathy Wilson, General Manager, or Dr Mathew Topping, consultant physician, on the following email addresses:
