A large and well-established 11–18 secondary school in Liverpool is seeking a proactive and organised Attendance & Education Welfare Officer to strengthen its pastoral and safeguarding provision. The school serves a diverse community and has developed clear systems around behaviour, attendance and parental engagement.
Attendance is a central priority within the school’s improvement strategy, and this role plays a key part in ensuring pupils attend regularly, barriers are identified early and families are supported appropriately.
The Role
You will take responsibility for monitoring, analysing and improving student attendance across all year groups. Working closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding leads and senior leadership, you will ensure that attendance procedures are robust, consistent and legally compliant.
Key responsibilities include:
• Monitoring daily attendance and identifying patterns of concern
• Following up on unexplained absences in line with safeguarding protocols
• Meeting with parents to support improved attendance
• Coordinating interventions for persistent absenteeism
• Preparing attendance reports for senior leaders and governors
• Liaising with external agencies where appropriate
You will maintain accurate records using the school’s MIS system and ensure communication with families is professional and timely.
