Job Overview The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this post Pastoral Care Chaplains are expected to meet the spiritual, religious, and pastoral needs of patients, carers, and staff within BCU in accordance with the Spiritual Care Standards (WAG 2010). Chaplains are regarded as an integral part of the therapeutic teams with direct access to patients and confidential patient information in liaison with other BCU staff. In addition to regular patient contact during working hours, a 24-hour on-call system operates, and chaplains are regularly called out to patients during unsocial hours. Chaplains are expected to work as a chaplaincy team, including chaplaincy volunteers, across hospital- and community-based services to deliver or facilitate a range of multi-faith chaplaincy services and to advise CPGs and locality teams on the development of spiritual care services. Main duties of the job The post holder is expected to be an autonomous, qualified practitioner whose role is to seek out and respond to the spiritual and religious needs of individuals, their carers, and staff across the range of service providers, including hospitals, localities, and community-based care for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCU). Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline for providing spiritual care. Authorised by and in good standing with their declared faith/belief group Desirable criteria A qualification in healthcare Chaplaincy, counselling or other related subject UKBHC registered Knowledge Essential Criteria Good communication skills, verbal & written Good listening skills Competence and creativity in delivering rituals in a healthcare setting Good knowledge of ecumenical and multi Faith issues Good understanding of issues around bereavement and end of life care Clear understanding of issues surrounding confidentiality Good self-motivation and time management Confident to work independently Willingness to work flexible and unsocial hours, including 24 hr on call Demonstrate a non-judgemental attitude to compassion and dignity in care Good level of self-awareness in relation to working in distressing situations Basic IT Skills Welsh speaker Ability to travel between sites Desirable criteria Counselling skills Management/supervision skills Team working skills Experience Essential criteria Significant experience working in healthcare Chaplaincy Experience of Team working Experience of multi Faith working Desirable criteria Specialist experience in area of spiritual care i.e. palliative, mental health, maternity Background in ethical issues Knowledge of current NHS issues, including familiarity with Standards for Spiritual Care in the NHS in Wales
