Senior Perinatal Practitioner

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust offers a specialist role within our Perinatal Mental Health team covering Calderdale. The role is agile and managed by the Service teams across the Trust’s footprint.

Job Responsibilities
Provide skilled interventions for women and families experiencing moderate to severe perinatal mental health illness, working within a multidisciplinary team. Manage a caseload in line with the Care Programme Approach, risk management protocols and national guidance such as NICE.
Provide leadership and support to the Perinatal Mental Health Team, including supervision of team members and participation in service development, clinical governance and duty rota. Maintain accurate patient records, mileage records and prepare monthly statistics. Ensure safe medication administration (registered nurses only). Act as acting team leader in absence.
Communicate effectively with all agencies involved in patient care and keep management updated on relevant developments.
Work flexible hours including occasional extended hours. A car and a valid driver’s licence is essential.
Qualifications & Experience
* Band 5 or above, or equivalent for social workers.
* RMN with current NMC registration; or Social Worker / Occupational Therapist with current Social Work England / HCPC registration.
* Experience supporting and supervising learners or colleagues.
* Experience in perinatal mental health and complex mental health problems.
* Knowledge of UK legislation (Mental Health Act, Health & Safety, Care Programme Approach).
* Proven skills in partnership working, audit and use of IT systems for clinical activity.
* Experience delivering therapeutic interventions in a multidisciplinary setting.
Special Knowledge & Skills
* Understanding of recent government legislation and clinical governance.
* Skill in partnership working with service users and carers.
* Equality and diversity awareness applied to care planning.
* Use of IT systems and audit processes.
* Knowledge of specialist areas: dual diagnosis, psychosis, personality disorder.
Training & Development
* Assessment and care planning.
* Risk assessment and management.
* Relevant post‑registration qualifications and training.
* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
* Dual qualification as RMN and Specialist Public Health Nurse or Midwife.
* Solihull Approach Training or similar.
* Video Interaction Guidance Training.
