JOB ADVERT Reference – SADH0302
Personal assistant required to support a 39‑year‑old man who uses single‑word communication and basic Makaton. He likes walking and chatting and is very friendly. He likes being outdoors and likes to go swimming, hillwalking, and going to the gym. Due to his learning disability and autism, he needs close supervision when out and about.
He is looking for an experienced personal assistant who will accompany him to the gym, go for walks and provide support and supervision.
Hours – 12 hours per week, with the hours likely to increase up to 20 hours over time.
Hours available:
* Friday: 4 pm – 7 pm – To collect from the day centre and bring home.
* Saturday: 3 pm – 6 pm.
* Sunday: 3 pm – 6 pm.
* Monday: 4 pm – 7 pm – To collect from the day centre and bring home.
Rate of Pay £13.95 per hour.
Main Duties Will Include
* Providing support to enable him to undertake activities that he enjoys.
* Helping him to communicate his needs by taking time to listen and to observe what he is trying to communicate.
* Accompanying him when out in the community.
* Assistance with any other reasonable tasks as and when required.
* Supporting him to have a shower at home, or at the gym.
The Postholder
The job requires someone who is understanding, patient and calm with good communication skills. It is important that the postholder has knowledge of learning disability and autism. As the personal assistant will be working with my son on a one‑to‑one basis it is vital that they are reliable, trustworthy and punctual. They should also be friendly, caring, sensitive and good fun. Confidentiality should be respected at all times.
You must respect the confidentiality of your employer at all times. You must be willing to undertake basic training as required. PVG membership is essential. Preferably from a pet‑free home due to allergies. Preferably a non‑smoker. Driving licence desirable.

As an organisation we are not the employer but assist people to look for staff if they need them. If you are employed, your contract will be with the person in receipt of the direct payment and not with Dundee Carers Centre or the SDS Support Service.
