Health & Safety Advisor (Construction)
Location: Belfast
Salary: £ p/h
Hours of work: Mon - Fri / 9am - 5pm
Duration: Temporary ongoing
Our client a large Public Sector organisation is seeking a Health & Safety Advisor (Construction) to join their team. You will play a vital role in delivering a comprehensive construction health & safety service, ensuring our projects are carried out safely, responsibly, and in line with legislation and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Act as a Competent Person under Health & Safety Regulations (NI) 2000.
2. Carry out site inspections, issue reports, and enforce corrective actions where necessary.
3. Stop unsafe work where there is imminent risk.
4. Investigate and report on incidents, providing recommendations and evidence where required.
5. Develop, implement and review policies, procedures and guidance.
6. Design and deliver health & safety training to staff and management.
7. Advise on compliance with CDM (NI) 2016 regulations.
8. Support and deputise for the Health & Safety Manager (Construction) when required.
9. Liaise with internal teams, contractors, trade unions and statutory bodies to promote safe working practices.
10. Keep up to date with health & safety legislation and ensure best practice is embedded across all projects.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
11. A degree (or equivalent, Level 6) in Occupational Health & Safety and at least 2 years' relevant experience,
OR currently undertaking a Level 6 qualification with 3 years' relevant experience.
12. Membership of IOSH (Technical or Certified level).
13. A valid CSR Card (successful applicants must obtain a Gold Health & Safety Practitioner CSR Card at renewal).
14. Strong, demonstrable experience in:Site inspections and reporting.Reviewing risk assessments, method statements, and construction phase plans.Developing and delivering health & safety training.Implementing policies and procedures.
15. Excellent planning, organisational, communication and influencing skills (assessed at interview).
16. A driving licence or access to transport for fulfilling the role.
Desirable
17. Experience within a large, complex, multi-site organisation.
