Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Doctor to work at the Bedford Hospital Site. You must be dedicated to providing high quality emergency care, maintaining clinical standards, and continually looking to drive positive change by developing the service.

This is a Trust Doctor post and therefore does not have recognised training approval. However, every effort will be made to provide teaching and training according to the post-holder’s needs. Study leave and budget will be made available in line with trust regulations. The successful candidates will be able to discuss their career aims and progression with the clinical supervisor and ES. They will be encouraged to keep a record of their competencies and training and encouraged to apply for entry to formal Core or Specialty Training Program (as appropriate).

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of both senior and junior medical staff, nurses and other allied health professionals. Duties will normally be comparable to those undertaken by a core surgical trainee (CT1/2). However, in exceptional cases you may be required to vary these at the direction of the Supervising Consultant.

Your job will include a combination of direct clinical care, clinical education and personal development activities designed to support your career progression alongside delivery of the department’s service objectives.

Main duties of the job

Routine and emergency patients must be seen and admitted expeditiously.

Ward rounds and visits to individual patients as well as discussion with their relatives may be necessary.

Keeping medical records as per GMC Good Medical practice is utmost; these must be dated and initialed, together with any other related administrative duties including discharge and clinic letters.

The patient’s discharge summary paperwork is to be completed prior to the patients discharge. Clinic letters are dictated within clinic and typed by the secretaries.

Supervision of the Foundation Year 1 doctors when performing clinical duties.

Duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant(s), in consultation where possible with colleagues both senior and junior. Additional commitments arising under this paragraph are exceptional. In particular, the doctor will not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

Agree to read and follow any protocols laid down (either in writing or verbally) for the firm in which you are working.

In case of any difficulties ensure that advice is sought from a senior colleague.

This post will include oncalls including Long days, Nights and weekends.

Essential criteria

1. Medical Degree-MBBS
2. Relevant postgraduate qualification MRCP, MRCS etc*

3. Additional relevant clinical experience

4. •Full GMC Registration (GMC Licence to Practice is mandatory before employment commences)
