SEMH Teaching Assistant

SEMH Learning Support Assistant (KS3 & KS4) – WF17

Looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference every single day?

Milk Education are working with a specialist SEMH provision in WF17 that is seeking caring, resilient, and empathetic Learning Support Assistants to support pupils across KS3 and KS4 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a highly rewarding role suited to individuals who understand the importance of consistency, trust, and emotional safety when supporting young people with additional behavioural and emotional needs. You will play a key role in helping students feel regulated, supported, and ready to engage in education while working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (full-time role)

Why apply?
Make a meaningful impact supporting vulnerable young people who need positive role models and stability
Work within a supportive SEMH setting committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and student wellbeing
Gain valuable experience in trauma-informed practice, behaviour support, and SEND education
Ongoing guidance, training, and support from Milk Education

What we’re looking for:
• Experience working with children or young people (professional or voluntary) – SEMH experience is highly desirable
• A calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach
• Confidence supporting students with challenging behaviour linked to trauma, anxiety, or unmet needs
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships
• A clear understanding of professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities
• Two recent references (work or education-based)

Your role may involve:
• Providing 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
• Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement with learning
• Creating structured, nurturing environments where students feel safe and understood
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs, and safeguarding teams
• Supporting routines, transitions, and positive behaviour strategies
• Encouraging confidence, independence, and emotional resilience
• Being a consistent, reliable, and positive role model

This role would suit someone with experience in education, youth work, residential care, support work, psychology, or social care — or someone with strong transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

Apply today and take the next step in a role where your support truly matters.
