Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Permanent band 6 Specialist Paediatric Rotational Physiotherapist to join our team working within Barts Health NHS Trust.

The rotations include exposure within inpatient respiratory including wards/PICU; outpatient respiratory services, neurology & orthopaedics, musculoskeletal outpatients and community paediatrics.

It will be expected that you join our weekend and on-call rota, once deemed competent.

The acute children’s therapy team is a dynamic team made up of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists and play specialists.

The team sit in the children’s division and provides clinical care across all acute in-patient areas from critical care, wards, day case and outpatients.

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to deliver specialised physiotherapeutic intervention to children across Barts Health NHS Trust as part of a rotational post.

They will use highly developed skills in assessment and treatment for patients with a wide variety of conditions and diverse presentations. Treatment will be delivered in a variety of settings, including clinics, outpatient departments, wards, patient’s homes and schools.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to deliver specialised physiotherapeutic intervention to children across Barts Health NHS Trust as part of a rotational post. They will use highly developed skills in assessment and treatment for patients with a wide variety of conditions and diverse presentations. Treatment will be delivered in a variety of settings, including clinics, outpatient departments, wards, patient’s homes and schools. Formal and informal supervision will be available as part of this role on a rotation specific basis.

As part of this post, the job holder will participate in teaching programmes, evidence based practice and ensuring clinical effectiveness. They will contribute to research and service development via the completion of projects. Dependant on the rotation, they will be responsible for the supervision of Band 5 and 3 staff as well as clinical education of physiotherapy students on placement.

The post holder will participate in the emergency out of hours and weekend service for the paediatric wards at the Royal London Hospital. They will also be flexible in their working areas as required in order to ensure service delivery across all sites.

Essential criteria

1. Degree/Equivalent in Physiotherapy
2. HCPC Registration
3. Evidence of continuing professional Development

Desirable criteria

4. CSP Member
5. Member of APCP

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Experience of working within the NHS
7. A broad variety of post graduate experience and/ or experience in a speciality
8. Post qualification experience working in a clinical setting
9. Contribution to the clinical education of less experienced staff or students
10. Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy or multidisciplinary team

Desirable criteria

11. Evidence of paediatric specific courses
12. Experience of supervising physiotherapy staff
13. Experience of operational and strategic team working
14. Experience of working in the community
15. Experience of working with children

Knowledge

Essential criteria

16. Ability to demonstrate appropriate MSK, neuro, orthopaedic and respiratory assessment and treatment techniques within a paediatric caseload.
17. Ability to safely problem solve, formulating problem lists and treatment plans to work autonomously with a wide range of paediatric conditions.
18. Knowledge of scope of practice and safely escalating concerns to seniors where indicated.
19. Evidence of reflecting and learning from gaps in knowledge within specialty.
20. Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for the service

22. Evidence of expanding knowledge base in paediatrics with appropriate self-directed learning, external courses or participation on an appropriate in-service training rota.
