Overview

Are you a passionate Clinical Psychologist looking to work in a dynamic, forward-thinking team where your expertise can truly change lives? Join the Children\'s Psychological Health and Wellbeing Team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust to deliver specialist psychological care to children and young people (CYP) with a wide range of complex needs, including those experiencing psychological distress related to health conditions or neurodivergence.

You will carry out comprehensive psychological assessments and deliver creative, evidence-based interventions to individuals, families, and groups. There are opportunities to contribute to service development, supervise trainees, support research, and collaborate across multi-agency teams including education, social care, and CAMHS. The team supports a diverse, inclusive culture with ongoing CPD, clinical supervision, and potential involvement in training delivery.

Details: Permanent, Band 7, full-time (flexible working available; home or remote working options). Location: Child Development Centre, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.


Main duties of the job

* Provide specialist clinical psychology assessments of individuals, families or groups with complex needs, using a range of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct/indirect observations and semi-structured interviews.
* Formulate, develop, provide and manage psychological interventions for individuals, families, carers or groups with complex presentations through highly specialised programmes of care (e.g. cognitive, behavioural, systemic, developmental). Interventions may be delivered as individual therapy and/or family work.
* Evaluate and decide on treatment options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex developmental factors shaping the individual or family.
* Utilise a range of specialist assessment techniques including psychometric and developmental assessments.
* Provide support to the wider service, including psychological consultation with the MDT and psychosocial assessment and intervention for children and young people as required.
* Support CYP with health difficulties and neurodivergent needs; be flexible to respond to service needs, including working in other areas of the service as required.
* Contribute to the design and development of the service and provide consultation, specialist advice and/or supervision to colleagues and other agencies.
* Communicate highly complex information with empathy and sensitivity to clients and families, potentially in emotive situations.
* Participate in EHAT/EHCP processes and other statutory processes; convene and chair multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
* Liaise, collaborate and advise with health and other professionals to promote psychological awareness, well-being and evidence-based practice for children and young people.
* Undertake training and teaching within psychology services and to other disciplines; contribute to Doctorate Clinical Psychology training where applicable.
* Supervise undergraduate/postgraduate students or assistants as required; maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and CPD; participate in regular clinical supervision.
* Work collaboratively within the Children\'s Psychological Health and Wellbeing Team and with external agencies (e.g., CAMHS, social work, education).


Person Specification

Essential

* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more psychotherapies, and lifespan development psychology, as accredited by the BPS.
* HCPC Registered (including awaiting registration).
* Demonstrable experience of complex, specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children and young people across settings (outpatient, community, inpatient).
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Up-to-date awareness of NHS agendas for children and young people and governance aspects.
* Excellent time management and organisational skills; ability to communicate complex information effectively; competence in research and audit/evaluation; ability to represent psychology within a MDT.

Desirable

* Experience with psychometric test administration (e.g., WISC, WPPSI) and developmental assessments; community or paediatric clinical experience.
* Computer literacy (e.g., Excel, video in therapy) and experience teaching/training or supervision.
* Ability to travel between sites.
