Opportunity for Senior Charge Midwife Leadership
Due to retirement, we have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to provide leadership as a Senior Charge Midwife within our Midwife Led unit. Please note, this post is rotational.
NHS Fife Maternity Services is a modern, thriving, and progressive unit with approximately 3,000 births annually. Our services include outpatient, community, and multifaceted inpatient services, such as a complex care Consultant Unit and an alongside Midwife Led Unit.
Additional facilities include our own Planned Caesarean Section team and a dedicated Induction of Labour Suite.
Last year, our Maternity Assessment Unit conducted over 17,000 triage phone assessments and more than 7,000 face-to-face consultations.
We value our expanding team of Maternity Care assistants, who are integral to our service.
The maternity ward is a 13-bed unit serving ante and postnatal women, as well as providing Stage 1 level National Transitional Care. The ward comprises a diverse team including midwives, nursery nurses, and maternity care assistants, supported by a wider multidisciplinary team.
We operate in a fast-paced environment and seek a motivated, experienced midwife to lead, nurture, and develop our service. The successful candidate will provide high-quality training and education to support staff in meeting the evolving needs of pregnant women and families. We desire an individual with the knowledge and skills to guide and support our team in maintaining excellence and adapting to community needs.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organisational and people management skills, with strong collaborative relationships across all medical staff grades. Responsibilities include reviewing and drafting departmental guidelines and maintaining accurate staff training records.
We promote professional development through our successful in-house leadership programme and encourage external networking opportunities.
Our leadership culture reflects our values. For instance, our Head of Midwifery was a finalist for the Royal College of Midwives national awards in 2021, recognizing her dedication to staff wellbeing during a global pandemic, exemplifying NHS Fife's commitment to its staff.
Our core focus is women and families. We are progressive, dynamic, and welcoming — and all we need is YOU.
Applicants must be an experienced NMC Registered Midwife, educated to degree level, with enthusiasm, excellent teamwork, and effective communication skills.
For informal enquiries, please contact Pamela Higgins, Inpatient Clinical Midwifery Manager, at 01592 729768.
A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.
