Main duties of the job
To provide a service as a member of the Complementary Therapies team and practice the therapies which have been agreed, in accordance with the policies of Dove House Hospice.
The therapist will provide therapies to patients in the inpatient unit, outpatient clinic and patient groups in addition to carers, staff and volunteers. The therapist will adhere to the Complementary Therapies policy and competencies.

Job responsibilities
Knowledge
1.To demonstrate a sound understanding of complementary therapies and in particular the therapies for which they are qualified to practice.
2.To be committed to develop skills and knowledge related to the care of patients with active, progressive and advanced disease, palliative care needs and the needs of their carers.
Practice
1.Provide a holistic approach to patients and their carers, in collaboration with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team, in order to ensure the provision of the highest quality of care.
2.To be aware of the patients diagnosis, treatment, care and current condition.
3.To be aware of contra-indications or precautions in relation to the therapies they practice and be able to adapt a treatment accordingly.
4.In conjunction with the Complementary Therapists receive referrals, assess, plan, evaluate and review treatments with patients/carers.
5.Complete the required documentation and make entries on SystmOne computerised records.
6.Provide feedback, including adverse reactions, to the patients nursing team/referrer, Complementary Therapist and multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
7.Communicate appropriately with all staff, liaise with other departments and agencies and attend internal and external meetings as appropriate.
8.Participate in clinical supervision/reflective practice with the Complementary Therapist.
9.Attend multi disciplinary and other meetings when necessary as relevant to the post as requested by the Complementary Therapists and or line manager.
10.Assist the Complementary Therapists to provide guidance to the multi-disciplinary team regarding the use of complementary therapies, promote the awareness of the benefits ofcomplementary therapies and ensure an understanding of the role of Complementary Therapies Team.
11.Assist the Complementary Therapists in support and development of new volunteer complementary therapists.
12.Participate in the preparation of audits and reports as may be required.
General
1.Respect the confidentiality of any information held in relation to past or present patients, carers, staff and administration of the hospice.
2.All staff are required to abide by Dove House health and safety policies.
3.Complete all mandatory Essential Education, moving and handling and First Aid Training as per organisational policy

Person Specification
Experience
* 1.Diploma in Anatomy Physiology level 3 or above
* 2.Diploma in Massage level 3 or above
* 3.Diploma in Reflexology level 3 or above
* 4.Experience of post qualification practice
* 5.Experience of practicing in a clinical setting
* 6.Member of a professional complementary therapy association or member of a voluntary regulatory professional body.
* 7.Excellent Interpersonal skills
* 8.Basic IT skills
* 9.To hold professional & public liability & indemnity insurance to £2,000,000.
