Senior Power Electronics EngineerFarnham, UK
The Role
We are seeking the right individual to join our Applications & Advanced Engineering team. The applicant may join at Engineer, Senior Engineer or Principal Engineer level depending on experience.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The successful applicant will work alongside control, e-machine and mechanical specialists to develop electronic concepts for next generation Protean products. This will primarily be in the power electronics domain but will also extend to the other electronics functions in the motor.
The successful candidate will need to be aware of technologies being demonstrated elsewhere at research through to high volume applications and understand the benefit they may give to Protean products. Benefits will be evaluated on a performance/cost/risk basis using tools developed in the team.
The successful candidate will then take the technology through to the working (concept) motor level of maturity and report at all levels of development.
Reporting, Location & Travel
This role reports to the Director of Applications & Advanced Engineering and is based in Farnham, Surrey with occasional requirement for national and international travel, primarily to local suppliers / partners and China.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, although are not limited to the following:
· Analysing and reporting on technology advances in the world of power electronics as related to the Protean product range.
· Understanding the impact on cost and performance at a system level (via simulation) of new technologies.
· Designing, purchasing, commissioning, testing new technologies along with associated changes.
· Understanding the functional requirements which drive the hardware BoM elsewhere in the machine and supporting discussions which may reduce hardware BoM via subtle requirement change.

Relevant Knowledge & Experience
Candidates should assess their suitability against the following essential and/or desirable relevant knowledge and experience:
Essential:
· Minimum of a good degree in Power Electronic Engineering or other relevant subject
· Either relevant PhD or deep research role in relevant field in industry.
· Design, test and evaluation of high voltage and high power, power electronics systems
· Electrical and thermal modelling and simulation
Desirable:
· SiC / GaN device-based converter development experience
· Electromagnetic FEA simulation experience
· PCBA schematic and layout software experience
· Familiarity with relevant automotive legislation, standards and guidelines
· 30kW to 200kW, 400V to 800V inverter design experience
· Knowledge of Insulation Coordination
· Understanding of motor control and sensors
· Design for functional safety to ISO26262
· Design for EMC; Analysing and rectifying compliance issues
