Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Coventry. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, and within whole-class learning environments.

The school caters for pupils from Early Years through to Post-16, providing a nurturing, inclusive, and highly supportive learning environment. Pupils have a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), communication and interaction needs, sensory needs, and social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence, build communication skills, and achieve their individual goals. Some pupils may require support with personal care, mobility, and daily living skills, therefore applicants must be willing to assist in these areas where required.

This role would be particularly suitable for graduates considering future careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Teaching, Social Work, or other SEND-related professions.

Support or care work
Residential care
Personal assistant roles

Community-based support
Health and social care settings
Working with children or adults with additional needs
Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field (desirable)
A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
Patience, resilience, empathy, and a flexible approach
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Key Responsibilities:

Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
Providing 1:1 and small group interventions tailored to individual pupil needs
Supporting pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and learning activities
Assisting with the development of independence and life skills, particularly for Post-16 learners
Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
Supporting pupils with personal care and medical needs where required
Promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
