Due to our continued growth and increasing demand for specialised fire door services, we are expanding our team and looking for an exceptional Contracts Manager to oversee and manage projects related to the installation, maintenance, and compliance of fire doors.
Job Description:
As a Contracts Manager – Fire Door Specialist, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of fire door projects from start to finish. This will include coordinating installation teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing client relationships, and overseeing both large and small-scale projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the fire protection industry, with particular expertise in fire doors and passive fire protection solutions. This is a high-responsibility role, which requires both technical knowledge (including BS 8214, BM TRADA/ Q-Mark, and Building Regulations) but also strong commercial acumen, and project management skills.
Responsibilities:
The Contracts Manager will be responsible for the general oversight, financial control, and strategic growth of CA Fire Protection's fire door division. This will include managing tenders, both short-term and longer-term contracts, cost control, and client relationships; to establish and drive forward the division profitably, and in full compliance with fire safety regulations and industry standards.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Project Management: Managing the full lifecycle of fire door installation projects, from initial consultation and site assessments to installation and final commissioning. Ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with relevant fire safety regulations and industry standards.
Compliance & Quality Control: Overseeing fire door installations, repairs, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with UK fire safety regulations and fire door certification standards. Conducting regular site inspections and audits to maintain high-quality standards.
Team Leadership & Coordination: Leading and coordinating fire door installation teams and subcontractors, ensuring they have the appropriate resources and training. Fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement within the team.
Client & Stakeholder Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and fire safety officers. Providing expert advice and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle to ensure expectations are met and any potential issues are proactively resolved.
Health, Safety & Risk Management: Ensuring all work adheres to strict health and safety guidelines. Conducting risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and implementing mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of all personnel and building occupants.
Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Budgeting for fire door projects, monitoring costs, and identifying cost-saving opportunities, whilst maintaining project quality and safety standards.
Reporting & Documentation: Preparing and delivering detailed progress reports, risk assessments, and compliance documentation for each project. Ensuring all relevant paperwork (including certificates of compliance and inspection records) is accurately completed and filed.
Continuous Improvement: Staying up-to-date with the latest fire door technologies, industry standards, and regulatory changes. Recommend improvements to processes, workflows, and operational efficiencies to optimise quality and performance.
Marketing & Business Development: Assisting in developing proposals, presentations, and promotional materials. Attending industry events and conferences to network and promote the company's fire door services.
Supplier & Vendor Management: Managing relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely delivery of fire door materials and components for projects.
Training & Development: Liaising with the SHEQ department to organise and facilitate training sessions for staff and subcontractors on fire door installation techniques, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
Regulatory Liaison: Maintaining compliance with fire safety regulations and coordinating with relevant authorities (working closely alongside the SHEQ department) for certifications and approvals.
Customer Service & Aftercare: Providing post-installation support, handling client feedback, and resolving warranty or maintenance issues as required.
Procurement of Certifications & Approvals: Ensuring that all fire door installations are certified in compliance with relevant regulations and standards, keeping track of necessary renewals and audits.
Project Risk Management: Conducting ongoing risk assessments throughout the project, developing mitigation strategies to address delays, hazards, or compliance issues.
Contract Management & Negotiation: Reviewing and negotiating contracts with clients and contractors, ensuring clear terms and alignment with project goals.
Technology Integration: Identifying and integrating new technologies to improve fire door performance, installation efficiency, and overall project management.
Sustainability Initiatives: Promoting eco-friendly practices, sustainable materials, and energy-efficient solutions in fire door installations and project management.
Data Management & Reporting: Maintaining up-to-date project records, managing documentation, and generating performance reports for senior management.
Requirements:
Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in fire door installation, maintenance, and fire protection project management, with a strong focus on fire door compliance.
Strong knowledge of UK fire safety regulations, including BS 8214, BM TRADA/ Q-Mark, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Leadership skills with a track record of managing teams and working collaboratively with contractors, clients, and other stakeholders.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications related to fire doors and passive fire protection systems.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook and Word and experience of using the BORIS system would be preferrable but not essential.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with clients, provide technical advice, and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, Fire Door Inspection Qualification) would be advantageous but not essential.
