An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Critical Care Outreach team at Newham University Hospital. You will be responsible for providing the highest standard of expertise as a first responder for acutely ill and deteriorating ward-based patients. You will provide advice and guidance for nursing practice within the hospital.
The post holder must be a registered general nurse with a degree in nursing and a post-registration qualification in critical care. Advanced assessment skills and the ability to communicate in complex situations are essential. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a desire to support the development of skills within all clinical areas through informal and formal teaching to ensure high standards and safe care in all clinical areas. The role provides diverse opportunities to work closely with a large multi-disciplinary team in Critical Care Services at Newham University Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The critical care outreach team plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients outside of the intensive care environment receive safe, timely and high-quality care. Our core purpose is to bridge the gap between critical care and the wards, acting as a safety net for deteriorating patients.
You Will Be Expected To
* Respond rapidly to urgent referrals from ward staff
* Review patients with high early warning scores or other signs of deterioration
* Proactive surveillance of early warning scores - promoting safety and timely intervention
* Carry out advanced physical assessment to detect early warning signs of severe illness
* Help prioritise care and plan next steps
* Provide leadership during emergencies
* Train ward staff on recognising and managing deterioration
* Listen to concerns raised by families, staff and patients
