The successful candidate will have experience working closely with the public in a customer-focused role and will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They should be able to act on their own initiative, influence, persuade, and manage difficult situations. The role involves working towards becoming a member of the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme and requires a full driving licence. Other duties will include:
* Liaising with contractors and Town and Parish Councils while patrolling areas to help reduce anti-social behaviour, including locking and securing sites.
* Using handheld technology such as tablets, smartphones, and other devices to assist in duties.
* Operating body cams and vehicle cameras in accordance with the Council's policies, procedures, guidelines, and Codes of Practice.
* Undertaking speed enforcement in partnership with Essex Police.
Community Engagement Officer - Maldon District Council

This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a highly visible, frontline team working across the Maldon District 7 days a week. The role involves balancing community engagement, safety, enforcement patrols, and activities. You will act as the Council's ambassador, so a positive and proactive approach is essential.
Your responsibilities will include enforcing parking and environmental offences, issuing penalty notices for issues such as dog fouling, littering, and civil parking offences. You will spend much of your time out on the streets and in public open spaces, ensuring visibility and proactive community interaction. The role requires working shifts, including evenings and weekends, and sometimes lone working.
We work closely with partners, including the Essex Police, with whom we have recently launched a Community Safety Hub at the Council Offices for joint working and patrols.
You will be part of a team that balances community engagement and enforcement, building strong links with the local community and working with organizations like Essex Police. Your duties will include enforcement under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, such as:
* Issuing Penalty Charge Notices for on and off-street parking.
* Speed camera enforcement.
* Dog fouling and control.
* Littering.
* Addressing antisocial behaviour.
