Overview
We are seeking a friendly and hardworking radiography/ Nuclear Medicine professional to join University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The Nuclear Medicine Department provides PET/CT, SPECT/CT and radionuclide therapy, with 3 SPECT/CT systems and a PET/CT, an onsite Radiopharmacy producing Tc99m and Ga68 radiopharmaceuticals, and active in research and development. The role involves imaging, non-imaging and molecular radiotherapy work, and requires strong interpersonal skills to work independently and as part of a team.
The department operates a five day working week (Mon-Fri) between 08:00 and 18:30, with no on-calls.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Lead the CT aspect of the SPECT-CT imaging service and oversee the diagnostic use of CT within Nuclear Medicine, including intravenous contrast administration protocols.
* Develop and review imaging protocols with emphasis on CT components; provide guidance on specialist CT work within the department.
* Supervise technical staff, trainees and students; be accountable for their work; train staff and deliver demonstrations and presentations.
* Train technical and non-technical staff and contribute to continuous improvement of the service.

Job responsibilities (selection)
* Take the lead technologist role in the CT aspect of the SPECT-CT imaging service.
* Manage and assist with all technical aspects of the service, providing specialist technical expertise and support as required.
* Organise/implement new and specialist SPECT-CT investigations, including IV contrast protocols; write/review protocols and consult with referrers, scientists and technologists.
* Act as first line for information and support for staff, patients and carers; provide solutions to complex situations as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Undertake audits to demonstrate compliance with CT acquisition legislation; optimise image quality and radiation dose within multi-modality imaging.
* Assume managerial duties in the absence of the Nuclear Medicine Technical Manager and assist with these duties as needed.
* Purchase radiopharmaceuticals, organise patient scheduling and technician workload; ensure efficient and economical scheduling without compromising clinical need.
* Administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients by IV injection, orally or as a gas; follow all procedures including patient identification and post-administration guidance.
* Explain investigations to patients and relatives; provide information considering the patient’s conditions, often serious diseases such as cancer.
* Take blood samples as part of diagnostic investigations.
* Work in an aseptic Radiopharmacy environment; elute radionuclide generators and manufacture radiopharmaceuticals for patient use.
* Perform a wide range of routine and specialist radionuclide investigations using gamma cameras and PET-CT to obtain diagnostic images; follow standard imaging protocols as requested.
* Process and analyse images and data; present results to support reporting; adjust display protocols to optimise image presentation.
* Contribute to development and review of protocols; support departmental research programmes and training activities; participate in technologist recruitment.
* Supervise technical staff, trainees and students; ensure radiation safety of visiting staff and others.
* Maintain data and records for audit, research and training; develop relevant databases and spreadsheets.
* Coordinate liaison with scientific, medical, nursing and support staff to exchange complex information related to patient investigations.
* Follow procedures for contamination response with radioactive materials; manage containment, decontamination and disposal as required.
* Participate in radiation protection and quality assurance programmes; perform daily checks on imaging and non-imaging equipment to ensure correct performance.
* Be mindful of budgeting and cost control by using high-value equipment safely and efficiently.
* Comply with legislation governing Nuclear Medicine practice and participate in ongoing training and development activities.
