Overview
Product Design Technologist - Sauces and UHT at Macphie. Based at our site in Glenbervie, Aberdeenshire with sites in Glasgow and Midlands, reporting into the Product Design Manager. You will design, develop, and improve our range of sauces and UHT-processed products, taking responsibility for new products from development kitchen to production line to ensure a smooth transition from trial to full production.
About The Role
Based at our site in Glenbervie and reporting into our Product Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and improving our range of sauces and UHT-processed products. You will be taking responsibility of new products from the development kitchen to the production line, for making sure that new products make a smooth transition from trial and testing stages to full production.
Key Responsibilities
* Progressing, monitoring and reporting of assigned Process Design Projects: set up, supervise, report factory trials.
* Review and opimise current operations to reduce costs, improve safety and improve quality.
* Assess impact of new equipment, raw materials, methods of manufacture, packaging etc.
* Support commissioning of new equipment.
* Set up and communicate reprocessing materials and products as required.
* Review current operations with a view to optimize, improve efficiency and deliver continuous improvement.
* Enhance product quality through process modifications, line changes, process control amendments or new equipment introduction.
* Liaison with Planning, Purchasing, Stock Control, Production and QC for arranging factory trials.
* Carry out product design work as required.
* Share learning with Operations staff during scale up from pilot to factory.
Requirements
About You
Enjoy a hands-on approach to work and can demonstrate a passion for our industry as well as an enthusiasm to learn with a healthy dose of curiosity. You will have a natural aptitude for problem solving and a first-class ability for planning, organising and communicating.
Qualifications And Skills
* Have a science degree, preferably in Food Processing/ Food Science/ Food Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other relevant science subjects.
* Proven experience in sauce formulation and UHT processing is essential.
* Able to demonstrate previous experience in Product Development and R&D within the food industry.
* Knowledge of raw materials/ food systems/ lab equipment / kitchen environment
* Knowledge and understanding of materials, statistical techniques and testing procedures
* Be commercially aware and an excellent communicator as you will be working closely with customers, suppliers, and other departments within the company.
* Be enthusiastic and able to develop and champion new ideas.
* Be organised with good analytical data skills and aptitude to problem solving.
