Job Description
Your New Role: Highways Maintenance Operative to join our team in Coventry. Our account, in partnership with Amey, is responsible for overall operations and maintenance including emergency response, winter gritting, and street lighting inspection and maintenance. We maintain 125 km of road network and build 40 km of new roads to support communities.
You will play an important role in the installation of temporary traffic management, highway maintenance, Road Safety Improvement & Active Travel schemes, civils works, drainage works, road gritting, and routine cyclic maintenance. Your responsibilities include:
1. Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic activities, civils, and drainage works.
2. Driving/operating vehicles including HGVs and plant, ensuring vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning.
3. Performing winter maintenance, including emergency call-outs and standby duties.
4. Keeping records of drivers' hours and necessary paperwork.
5. Ensuring safety compliance and safe operation to protect yourself and the public.
6. Carrying out vehicle checks before shifts and filling defect books accurately.
7. Attending project and work briefings as required.
8. Maintaining communication and liaising with colleagues, subcontractors, emergency services, police, clients, and the public.

* Previous experience in groundworks, civils, plant operations, or HGV driving is preferred.
* Problem-solving skills.
* Self-motivation and proactive attitude.
* Good communication skills.
* Valid HGV Class 2 license.
