Macmillan Head and Neck Cancer CNS maternity cover
Experienced Head and Neck Cancer CNS required to cover 12 months maternity within the Head and Neck cancer service at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. This will be 22.5 hours at Band 6, ideally Monday, Wednesday and Friday.The post holder will work in collaboration with other members of the multi professional team to assist and co-ordinate a smooth pathway of care throughout the head and neck cancer patient journey and act as a resource to patients and their carers from diagnosis, through treatment and rehabilitation. This will involve working autonomously, managing a case load of patients with support from the wider team.The post holder will be an enthusiastic and conscientious team worker who is able to prioritise their workload. They will have excellent communication skills and will be able to use their own initiative and have the ability to respond to queries with a professional manner towards patients, relatives and staff at all levels.Experience of emotional and psychosocial care and support of patients and families is essential, as is a record of continuing practice development, teaching and education and audit.
Main duties of the job
Continuous delegated responsibility for a caseload of patients with head and neck cancerProvide clinical, social and psychological support to patients using excellent communication skills, education and health promotion, enabling them to reach their optimum level of independence and healthProvide specialist advice, supervision and support to defined caseload and peersOrganise, prioritise and evaluate workload based on accepted referral criteria and discharge criteria in line with operational protocolsContribute to the multi-professional approach in the management of patients with head and neck cancers and support their carers in relation to ongoing care needsMaintain effective working relationships with all members of the combined MDT, acting as advocate for MYTT patients being treated centrally in LeedsMaintain accurate appropriate and concise patient records within agreed databases and electronic systemsResponsibility for supporting the Band 7 CNSs and Multidisciplinary team in leading identified and agreed aspects of the servicePromote programmes of health education and health promotion relevant to service particularly patients with head and neck cancerAct as a resource for specialist knowledge for clinical staff on wards / departmentsSupport the management and function of the department by provision of reports and information as requiredWork within national policy frameworks relevant to the service and trust local guidance
