Archives and Local Studies Senior Officer
Join Buckinghamshire Archives as we relocate to High Wycombe in early 2027. The Senior Officer will plan and deliver an ambitious, outward‑looking Archives and Local Studies Service.
Overview
We are a county‑wide service covering 800 years of local history, including the internationally important Paralympic sports archives and the Milton Keynes archives. Our aim is to engage, excite, educate and empower the community.
About Us
Buckinghamshire Council is a newly formed organisation that consolidates the strengths of five former councils to better serve residents, communities and businesses. Buckinghamshire Archives is part of this council, with a focus on customer care and collections management.
About The Role
* Provide day‑to‑day planning and delivery of the Archives and Local Studies Service.
* Support the relocation of the archives to High Wycombe, playing a key role in planning and implementation.
* Direct and lead the service, ensuring excellent customer service remains at the core.
* Carry out direct line management of the Community Engagement Officer, Customer Access Supervisor and project staff.
* Take responsibility for health and safety matters within the service.
* Implement policies, procedures and standards set by the County Archivist.
About You
* Proven experience delivering an excellent customer‑focused service.
* Strong leadership skills, able to motivate teams and individuals to achieve success.
* Good planning and organisational skills, able to prioritise and coordinate workloads.
* Professional qualification in Archive Administration or a related Local Studies area.
* Well‑developed skills in leading and motivating teams.
Additional Information
This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; applicants must declare all unspent cautions and convictions. The position is a fixed role, likely based in a permanent office.
