About The Role

We are seeking to recruit a gynaecologist to strengthen our gynaecology team in preparation for the opening of our new surgical hub to provide efficient and high‑quality care to women living across Wakefield and North Kirklees. We have state‑of‑the‑art hospitals at Pontefract and Wakefield and a new surgical hub including gynaecology at Dewsbury Hospital. Within the gynaecology services we have a dedicated assessment unit on the Pinderfields site and offer a wide range of comprehensive care to our patients, including:

* BSGE regional endometriosis centre
* Dedicated gynaecology assessment unit in Pinderfields
* Outpatient clinics for menopause, colposcopy, uro‑gynaecology, endometriosis, hysteroscopy, minor procedures and post‑menopause bleeding
* Gynaecology oncology unit, working with Leeds Teaching Hospital oncology teams
* Elective surgery at Pinderfields and Dewsbury Hospitals with access to Da Vinci robots on both sites
* Elective obstetric suites in Pinderfields Hospital


Main Duties

* General gynaecology clinics (9:00–13:00/13:30–17:30)
* Regular gynaecology day‑case and inpatient operating lists to maintain emergency gynaecology skills
* Administrative duties with appropriate office space and secretarial support
* Multidisciplinary team meetings (annualised) and hot‑week cover for acute gynaecology (08:00–18:00, Monday to Friday)
* Consultant pre‑ and post‑op ward rounds allocated in the DCC for theatre sessions (annualised)
* On‑call duties for gynaecology, shared with 14 colleagues on a 1 in 8 basis (17:30–08:00 on weekdays, 08:00–11:00 on weekends); paid at Band A
* Supporting professional activities (minimum 1.5 SPA) per Trust framework; additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with skills and service requirements
* Participation in management of complex gynaecological surgery across the BSGE regional centre for endometriosis and collaboration with Leeds Teaching Hospitals for gynaecology cancer cases


Essential Person Specification

* Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* Inclusion on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR/equivalent)
* Medical degree from a recognised medical school
* MRCOG or equivalent
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* ATSM: benign abdominal surgery – open and laparoscopic (or equivalent)
* Fully accredited by a college and acceptable to college representative
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of a gynaecology service
* Appropriate experience in gynaecology
* Responsibility for day‑to‑day service management
* Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
* Active participation in departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit
* Execution of continuing medical education (CME)
* Problem‑solving skills; good time management; computer literate
* Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services
* Organise and manage outpatient priorities/theatre lists
* Audit experience
* Work within NHS performance framework and targets
* Lead and manage junior staff
* Clear and effective communication with staff and patients
* Flexibility and willingness to learn and implement hospital systems and local policies
* Physically able to carry out the duties
* Disclosures: DBS clearance and ability to work effectively in a multi‑disciplinary team
* Good interpersonal skills; caring attitude towards patients
* Commitment to CME and clinical governance
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at regional or national level
* Passion for obstetrics and service development
