Outreach Youth Practitioner - Duke of Edinburgh Award

Job description

Can you make vital connections with young people and families?

Can you support our young people to develop lifelong, essenial skills?

Help shape our support for our children, our futures.

Whether you’ve worked in youth support, community engagement, or you’re ready to make your mark in a people-first role, we have an exciting opportunity to support our young people on their Duke of Edinburgh Award journeys!

What will your day look like?

Working 8 hours a week, mainly across evenings, with some weekends and other residentials where we allow 10 hours per day against the hours allocated on an annual basis.

Support teams training for expeditions, map work tent cookery etc. classroom based at the centre. This will be alongside an experienced staff member until you are ready to deliver it on your own.

Walking with teams on their training expeditions, supported by experienced staff as you work towards getting a walking qualification and working independently with the teams.

This includes both day walks and residential camps on weekends and during school holidays.

Support the skills courses we run, such as cookery or any skills courses you may be able to offer the participants.

Support our SEN offer with sessions after school delivering crafts, cookery, physical activities, and expedition training.

Work alongside the wider street based team when needed, covering outreach, centre based and detached work.

Who are we looking for?

enjoying and appreciating the outdoors, a passion for giving young people opportunities and supporting them to achieve their goals. Someone with flexibility as our working weeks differ from season to season. Someone who is resilient and doesn’t mind getting stuck in- the benefits are so worth it!

Someone who can work in a team and independently when needed.

Fresh ideas always welcome-we are happy to try new things if it benefits our young people!

Why join us?

We love our work and we love working with young people. Our participants are amazing, they are so positive and they want staff to support them to grow!

The work is flexible and the 8 hour contract is annualised so some weeks when there’s an expedition you will work more hours and some weeks you work less, but it all balances out! We can work around commitments you already have, so as a team we can work together and get the most amazing memories and experiences alongside the participants.

We reserve the right to close our adverts early if we have received a significant volume of suitable applications.
