AREA MANAGER – BREEDER POULTRY FARMS
Lincolnshire

PB Recruitment Solutions are currently recruiting for
FIXED TERM CONTRACT (UP TO 1 YEAR) AREA MANAGER (Breeder Farms)
to cover our client farms within
Lincolnshire region
. Ideal candidates must Poultry Breeder background but would see people with Poultry Broiler experience.

Due to the nature of our roles, candidates
must be a UK Resident
residing within the local area. Please note we cannot offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.

Salary / Hours :

* Salary: up to £51,097 (plus company car)
* 40 hours a week
* Monday to Friday – On call cover at the weekends on rotation

Job Purpose:

To oversee parent stock during both laying and rearing period to ensure birds are managed to company standards and provide support for Company and Contract Farm Managers. To work closely with the Parent Stock Breeder Manager to meet targets and company and customer orders at the lowest possible cost.

Responsibilities:

Financial:

* Work with Parent Stock Breeder manager to ensure that budgets and costings are met and to produce maximum quality viable hatching eggs
* To ensure their areas of responsibility are managed efficiently and cost effectively in line with agreed performance targets.

Staff:

Work with parent Stock Breeder Manager on Labour requirements and staff training in conjunction with the Human Resources department. To ensure staff work safely and in a safe environment.

Duties / Responsibilities:

To meet agreed standards of production and evaluate production programmers – standards of performance are met when:

* The person organizes and supervises trials on farms.
* Results have been analyzed and recommendations made to the Parent stock Breeder Manager and other Area Managers
* The person monitors general performance on a continual basis and provides feedback information to Parent Stock Breeder Manager, in line with the "Being the best" style of information management.
* The person demonstrates a reduction in the spread of results year on year

Provide technical support to Farm Managers– standards of performance are met when:

* Technical advice on all areas of management is given as and when requested by the Farm Managers.

Provide technical support to Farmers – standards of performance are met when:

* The person provides information to Farm Managers on programmes necessary to manage stock correctly and checks implementation of programmes during regular site visits.
* In conjunction with the Parent Stock Breeder Manager the person sets specifications for poultry houses and equipment.
* In conjunction with the Parent Stock Breeder Manager the person ensures training for Managers is provided.
* The person provides back up on sites where disputes arise between staff
* The person provides guidance on the operation of poultry house equipment.
* Advice is given to farms on culling and health status of flocks.
* In conjunction with the Parent Stock Breeder Manager the person oversees the production and update of the operations manual.

Bird Placement – standards of performance are met when:

* The Manager liaises with the Parent Stock Breeder Manager to determine the number of birds needed for internal placement on sites and for customers.
* Farm Managers, Maintenance Managers and any other relevant people have been informed that birds are being placed or depleted on particular dates

To carry out farm inspections – standards of performance are met when:

* The manager carries out inspections of poultry houses during inter-flock.
* Birds are inspected on delivery to ensure birds are healthy, the correct number for each house has been delivered and the houses have been properly prepared by the Farm Manager
* Sites are inspected to ensure appropriate action is taken to control vermin and adequate hygiene precautions are being implemented.
* The person ensures that all Farm Managers and staff are aware of relevant Health and Safety issues and that guidelines are being adhered to. To ensure on visits that if a process is seen as unsafe that it is stopped and assessed.
* Ensure that Biosecurity policies are being followed to the letter and make suggestions and improvements where possible
* To ensure Farms are following all Environmental legislation and all relevant paperwork is in place
* The person ensures that all Farm paperwork is up to date and tidy
* Flocks are visited routinely and production monitored. The Manager must be aware of the performance traits of all flocks under their responsibility.

Health and Safety

* Follow the company slogan that SAFETY IS A CONDITION
* Ensure all accidents and near misses are investigated as required by company protocol
* Risk assessments and training documents are kept up to date in all areas of their responsibility
* Farm signage is current and correct
* To ensure Farm Managers are made aware of any Health and Safety issues on their Farm and to follow up

Problem traceability – standards of performance are met when:

* Disease or technical problems have been identified and appropriate action taken.
* Problems have been traced to identify source and findings reported to line manager
* The person recommends procedures to prevent re-occurrence of problems and ensures implementation of agreed procedures.

Maintain working knowledge of industry requirements / developments – standards of performance are met when:

* The person ensures that existing or new standards for performance enhancement are designed and implemented.
* The person keeps up to date with developments within the industry or with competitors.

Flock Status Monitoring – Standards of performance are met when:

* The person arranges the vaccination timetable for flocks
* The person ensures that all relevant tests for salmonella and blood titres are taken at the appropriate time.
* General health checks have been carried out e.g. worm counts.

Supervision of external visitors – standards of performance are met when:

* Preparations for visits have been made as follows: agenda set, organise transport, times, meals, farms to visit, inform all relevant staff of forthcoming visits.
* The person escorts visitors around farms, explaining processes and procedures adopted by the company.
* At all times the person aims to promote the company with customers.
* Assistance is provided for auditors or customers who may wish to audit any breeder farm.

Personnel Duties – Standards of performance are met when:

* The manager liaises with relevant mangers to determine the number of staff required in each area and authorises appropriate recruitment when required.
* Where necessary, the manager will administer disciplinary, grievance and dispute procedures and will handle all wage queries put to him by any member of their team.
* The manager ensures there is adequate holiday cover.
* The manager works to create a focused and inclusive working environment for all staff ensuring staff are properly trained for all duties.

Auditing:

* The person must ensure that farms are run in accordance with current standards laid down by 'Red Tractor'.
* Must ensure that farms are run in accordance with current standards as laid down by customers.
* Must ensure that Farm Managers meet all relevant standards and requirements laid down by the APHA.

Vaccination:

* All vaccination teams including Farm Managers should be trained and audited.
* The Manager should ensure that all vaccinations are completed and the current programme followed.
* Ensure that blood litre levels are at the expected level.

Budgets and finance:

* To be aware of all Farm costs and make savings where appropriate.
* To focus on any overspend and reduce where possible.
* To use the Mtech system effectively and ensure stocks and production information is being reported correctly.
* To be involved in the budgeting process.

Additional information:

* To work in a manner that actively seeks to reduce any negative environmental impact in relation to the processes and procedures operating within their area and across the wider business e.g. reduction of waste, recycling etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Employment Experience Required:

Essential:

* Experience in Breeder Farm Management or Farm Technical role
* Organisational skills
* Clean driving licence
* People management skills and experience
* Responsible attitude
* Computer literate
* Attention to detail
* Appreciation of the hygiene and bio security of the breeder operation
* Understanding of the key performance areas of the breeder operation
* Motivational skills

Desirable:

* Previous experience in a leadership/managerial role
* Experience of budgeting and financial processes
