The successful post holder will join a forward‑thinking, motivated and experienced Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) in Newtown, North Powys. The acute service in this rural area is undergoing positive change, shaping services now and the role will be varied and interesting. The post holder will contribute to the mental health team’s aspiration to be the best, and will enjoy the flexibility to develop a special area of interest. Your work will be highly appreciated by staff and by the local community.

Job coverage is a rural catchment of approximately 32,000, an area of varying socio‑economic status. Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys County Council, GP’s, the voluntary sector, users and carers work closely together to plan and provide a range of mental health, learning disability and substance misuse services.

Essential Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Holds Welsh Approved Clinician status (or able to achieve within first three months).
* Approved s12.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be able to fulfil all duties of the post, including on‑call commitments and travel to meet post requirements.
* Satisfactory immigration status, satisfactory health clearance and satisfactory declaration, CRB/DBS certificate.
* Effective written and spoken English to enable communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.


Desirable Qualifications

* Valid certified basic life support skills (or equivalent international qualification).
* Relevant higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc).
* Experience within the NHS.
* Research and training in physical health conditions relevant to mental health.
* Evidence of above‑average performance.
* Willingness to learn or already speak Welsh.


Clinical Governance

* Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding the role of audit in improving medical practice.
* Comprehension of the core philosophy and building blocks of clinical governance.
* Knowledge of risk management.


Research

* Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence.
* Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication.
* Research degree.


Teaching

* Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors.
* Willingness to teach medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education.
* ‘Training the Trainers’ experience.


Management

* Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS.
* Evidence of management training.
* Ability to cope with stressful situations and undertake responsibility.
* Excellent interpersonal and team‑working skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary and multi‑agency team.
* Ability to work flexibly to respond to changing service needs.
* Evidence of leadership attributes.
* Motivational skills.
