The Opportunity
Essex faces employment and skills challenges such as low productivity, wages, and workforce skill levels. Despite low unemployment claimant counts, there are high levels of economic inactivity and pockets of deprivation in communities.
Essex County Council delivers the Connect to Work Programme to support residents facing barriers to employment, social inclusion, and engagement.
The Participant Support Officer plays a key role in removing barriers for residents accessing opportunities within the programme, working across Greater Essex to engage participants and develop tailored support packages. The role also involves supporting programme improvement through feedback, surveys, and co-production activities.
Accountabilities
1. Maintain understanding of eligibility and suitability criteria, providing information and advice to potential applicants.
2. Assist individuals with expressions of interest and referrals, supporting engagement during onboarding.
3. Build and maintain networks to promote understanding of the programme and identify suitable candidates.
4. Collaborate with marketing to deliver advice clinics and workshops, engaging with housing associations, Job Centre Plus, and voluntary groups.
5. Coordinate with Triage teams to ensure smooth progression of expressions of interest.
6. Work with Employment Advisors to create tailored support packages.
7. Collect and analyze data on participant engagement and satisfaction.
8. Support continuous improvement initiatives through feedback and innovative solutions.
9. Meet individual and team targets as set in the performance framework.
Experience Required
1. Educated to RQF level 4 or equivalent, or relevant experience in job coaching/support work.
2. Commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice.
3. Experience working with individuals facing employment barriers.
4. Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
5. Ability to facilitate workshops and training sessions.
6. Experience working with businesses or partner organizations on economic development.
7. Proficiency with digital tools like PowerPoint for presenting information.
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, using supervision effectively.
