Locum Consultant Colorectal / General Surgeon from September / October 2025 for 1 year

SUMMARY:
We are seeking a locum consultant surgeon with an interest in Colorectal Surgery, including subspecialty interests in IBD. This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months from the start date, with a full working week of DCC commitments.
This role is a sabbatical leave replacement, joining our surgical on-call team with a frequency of 1:12.
Key duties will include:
* Supervising and running outpatient clinics and operating lists (both independent and supporting more complex cases)
* Participating in the weekly Colorectal MDT
* Performing endoscopy lists if JAG accredited or working towards accreditation
* Caring for ward patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward nurses and our wider acute team
* Emergency work: Consultant General Surgery on-call schedule of 1 in 12
Our Trust provides hospital services to approximately 700,000 residents across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, across two hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Travel between sites may be required.

About the Trust:
Join the newly formed Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, resulting from the merger of The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital NHS Trusts, effective 1 April 2020. The hospitals retain their identities and individual names, with key services remaining on both sites, managed as a single team across Bedfordshire. The colorectal department is evolving, with robotic surgery developments from 2023.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Full registration on the UK GMC’s Specialist Register
* MRCP qualification
* Specialist Registrars within 6 months of CCT may apply
Residence within ten miles or thirty minutes of the hospital is required.
The appointment is contingent upon an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check prior to start.
