A highly specialised, secure government-facing technology organisation is seeking an experienced 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer to join their IT Department on a contract basis. This role is a priority hire focused on securing and supporting mission-critical infrastructure in a highly compliant environment.
The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong operational experience to drive security enhancements and maintain high system availability.
Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas
* You will be responsible for the administration and 3rd line support of core IT infrastructure, with a strong focus on security and compliance.
* 3rd Line Support: Provide expert 3rd line support for Windows and Linux Servers and all networking components.
* Security & Design: Design, document, and implement significant security improvements such as network segmentation, MFA, VPN enhancements, and additional network security measures.
* Compliance: Ensure all systems are maintained, patched, and upgraded to remain compliant with internal policy, including requirements aligned with Cyber Essentials.
* Risk Mitigation: Investigate and address technology risks, including designing and managing solutions to mitigate ransomware attacks.
* Operational Readiness: Support service deployment activities, participate in the design of new services, and ensure all system documentation and IT processes are applied and up to date.
Essential Technical Skills & ExperienceCandidates must demonstrate experience and knowledge in the following areas:
* Security Clearance: Current or recent eligibility to hold SC security clearance is essential.
* Servers & OS: Extensive experience designing, configuring, and managing Windows Server and Linux Server environments.
* Virtualisation: Strong experience designing, configuring, and managing VMware environments.
* Networking: Practical networking experience covering Switches, Firewalls, and VPNs.
o Desirable: Experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, and Barracuda devices.
* Security Principles: Knowledge and experience of Secure by Design, Zero Trust, and Cyber Essentials frameworks.
* ITSM Tooling: Experience using IT Service Management tooling (eg, Managed Engine, ServiceNow, or similar).
